Classic Martial Arts Are Still Hot Remakes in China
2006-8-24 10:49:09      crienglish.com

Three Hong Kong classic martial arts TV series, including "Huo Yuanjia" 《大侠霍元甲》, "Chen Zhen"《陈真》and "Tiger Hill Trial"《再向虎山行》, will be re-shot as a trilogy together beginning this October.

"Huo Yuanjia" will be the first episode of the classic martial arts trilogy, the manager surnamed Guo from Ji'an Yongjia Film & TV Company told Sina.com.

Guo said that based on the 1980's version of "Huo Yuanjia", many new elements will be added to the new version to cater to the more modern tastes of audiences nowadays.

The story will emphasize Huo Yuanjia's change from an imprudent martial arts master to a patriot. Huo's love story will also be interpreted in a brand-new way.

Although casting is still under way, Guo revealed veteran stars in the original versions will also be involved in the new productions in addition to rising stars.

Hsiao Liang (梁小龙), the former actor of Chen Zhen, and Michelle Yim (米雪), the leading actress in the original "Tiger Hill Trial", will both appear in cameos to remind audiences of the first "Chen Zhen."

Guo added after the TV series trilogy, the company also plans a film remake about kung fu legend Bruce Lee. All of the TV dramas and film remakes is scheduled to hit screens before the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
