Rising Chinese mainland director Ning Hao was born in China's Shanxi province in 1977. Graduating from the Photography Department at Beijing Film Academy, Ning's college studies gave him an opportunity to experiment with film.
His inaugural work with the medium "Thursday, Wednesday" was responsible for his first gaining the honor of being named Perfect Director and winning second prize in the Chinese Digital and Media Contest, part of the 2001 Beijing Student Film Festival.
Ning Hao's first full film, "Incense," premiered in Locarno, Switzerland. It has been awarded by Tokyo FilmeX, afterwards receiving the Golden Prize in 2004's 28th Hong Kong International Film Festival for Asian Digital Modules. Meanwhile, "Incense" was also been awarded Best Film in 2004 by the Hong Kong Art Center. The film has been nominated for seven international film festivals, including San Sebastian, Vancouver, Munich, Manila, Sydney, California, Film Show of South Taiwan, etc . Ning Hao's most recent work, "Mongolian Pingpong," was selected to play at both the Berlin International Film Festival in 2004 and the Hong Kong International Film Festival. The film won Most Popular Film of Asia at the Shanghai International Film Festival and has been favorably reviewed by the New York Times following its screening in New York City.
