Hong Kong movie star Jackie Chan said Thursday he has a keen interest in design, and has devised props for his films for years.

Chan said art directors often accept props he's designed, according to his official Web site.

The kung fu actor said at a graduation show for Hong Kong university's design program that he planned to subsidize local design students, the Apple Daily newspaper reported.

Chan also urged people to support smaller design labels that create unique products, the report said.

"If we want to improve the design industry, we should start from education," Chan was quoted as saying. He did not reveal the subsidies' amounts.

Chan has his own design studio, The Jackie Chan Design House.
